LO1: Analysis of BBC News

A) Purpose
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news
The purpose of BBC News is to inform people news from around the world. This is to keep people updated with what is happening. This site is also used to advertise things such as events or TV, films or books. The target audience for this website are people who enjoy or want to know about the news, this means this website is aimed towards both genders, age 18 or over. The social grade of BBC News is Middle class ABC1, I think this because the website is online which means that the audience needs some sort of computing device to view this website. However this website is free to visit so that means that anyone can access this website.

B) Visitor Needs
The visitor needs of BBC News is to find out about News around the world, this is met by users been about to navigate through the different news stories and weather. When the visitors first arrive on the BBC website the visitors are instantly directed to the homepage which is usually full of the latest big news stories which will grab the readers attention. If the visitor is looking for something specific within the website, they can use the search bar which is located in the header of the website

C) Information flow (User Experience)
The BBC News website is quite basic making it easy to navigate within the website. The search bar can be found in the top right corner of every page. I know its a search bar

D) Features - 100 words
The search bar is at the top right corner of every page, with this search bar there is no drop down menu for categories, this means that when people search for certain news stories it is not going to be too complicated. There are pictures on most pages, this is a way of the audience seeing what it is about without reading the full article, this is the same with the subtitles for each article, this is to save time for the readers as they can find an article they are looking for quicker. In the header of the webpage there is an option to navigate on to a different website to listen to the BBC radio. There are various hyper-links on this webpage which takes the visitors to the different news articles. As well as a radio button there is also a button to navigate just to videos and audios, these are both used for the people who find it easier to watch or listen rather than read which mean it expands the target audience.

E)Benefits
BBC News can only be found online as it doesn’t have any high street stores. The website allows the audience find out about news from around the world. However BBC news can also be found on TV. The producer has this website as it is an easy way to share the news to everyone around the world as it reaches a wide audience as it is a 24/7 version of BBC News on TV.

F) Content

This is a screenshot of BBC in 2002. The website is very basic however it still has some of the same features such as a search bar. However there are no photos of items that are for sale on the home page but there are still hyperlinks to navigate the users to other parts of the website.

This is a screen shot of Gumtree in 2015. The website has changed quite a bit since 2001 as it is more advanced now with 2 search bars and photographs so the users can actually see what they are buying instead of just relying on the  description of the items.
